Equity Planning C-3 Topic

 
Citizens Coordinate for Century 3 (C-3) and the San Diego Housing Federation are sponsoring a dialogue Thursday, January 21 entitled "Are the Tides Turning on Equity and
Environmental Justice in San Diego Planning?".  Panelists are Diane Tarkovian, Executive Director of the Environmental Health Coalition; Jennifer Vanica, President/CEO of
the Jacobs Center for Neighborhood Innovation; and Murtaza Baxamusa, Director of Research and Policy for the Center for Policy Initiatives.  Nico Calavita, Professor
Emeritus, Graduate Program in City Planning at SDSU, is the moderator.  Breakfast and registration begin at 7:30 a.m. at the Holiday Inn Embarcadero in San Diego and the program is from 8 to 9:15 a.m. More information is available here. Reservations

 Nominations Due for Energy Awards

 
Nominations for the prestigious 2009 SANDEEs are due by January 18.  A panel of energy experts and industry leaders will serve on the selection committee. The sixth annual San Diego Excellence in Energy (SANDEE)  Awards reception will be held on March 25. The SANDEEs are the premier annual awards event for acknowledging San Diegans who have made a significant commitment to energy efficiency, energy conservation, renewable energy or greenhouse gas reduction.  Nomination information is here.
 

Preserving Affordability Webinar Thursday
  
Due to popular demand and a technical problem which prevented recording, NCB Capital Impact will be repeating the December 1 webinar on Preserving Affordability in the NSP Program.  The new session will be offered Thursday, January 14 from 10:30 am. to 12:30 p.m. There is no charge. 
 
This Webinar will focus on strategies to achieve affordable housing goals through such mechanisms as Deed Restrictions, Community Land Trusts, Shared Appreciation Loans, and Lease-to-Purchase Programs. For more information and to register, click here.
 

CDLAC Meeting Cancelled

 
The January 14 meeting of the California Debt Limit Allocation Committee (CDLAC) has been cancelled. The next scheduled allocation meeting is January 27.

 

Registration Open for Law Conference

 
The Fair Housing Laws and Litigation Conference series has opened registration.  The conference will be held at the San Diego Community Concourse on February 11 and 12. To see the program and register click here. Early registration discounts expire on January 29. The Fair Housing Council of San Diego is also planning a special a UNITYFest production in conjunction with the conference to commemorate Black History Month.
 
Catalyst Sustainable Grants Available
 
The Catalyst Projects for California Sustainable Strategies Pilot Program will fund six projects to provide incentives for sustainable communities and to increase the supply and affordability of housing for specific pilot projects.  These grants are available to local governments and must incorporate a mix of local, state, federal or private funding.  A maximum of $1 million per project is available and will be drawn from Proposition 1C funds.  Applications are due February 11.
 
Project requirements include: 
  • 1000 planned housing units, with a demonstrated plan to address the jobs/housing relationship, housing affordability relative to wages or rehabilitation of 250 low-income housing units. 
  • Project complies with housing element.
  • Project has a committed private sector partner.
  • Demonstrates a connection to transportation projects in the Sustainable Community Strategy component of the area Regional Transportation Plan.
  • Demonstrates how the project reduces regulatory barriers at the local level.

Housing California is now accepting Institute and Workshop proposals for the annual conference April 26 - 28 in Sacramento.  The deadline for Institute and Workshop proposals is Thursday, February 4. Information is here.
