Save the Date for Fall Conference

The Federation's 18th Annual Conference, will be held Thursday, October 15, 2009 in a new location -- the Marina Village Conference Center on Mission Bay. By moving the conference location and date to a Thursday, we will be able to offer more networking/exhibit time between sessions, better access to exhibits, and include an end-of-day networking reception for participants and speakers.

The recently refurbished Marina Village facility provides  a combination of indoor and outdoor space along the Quivara Basin marina at Mission Bay. A beautiful natural environment has been one of the highlights of prior conferences. Mark your calendars for this important date and watch for notices of conference submission proposals coming very soon.

If you would like to participate on the conference planning committee, please email Kelley Dukat at kelley@housingsandiego.org. The committee's first meeting is Thursday morning.

Board Opposes Redevelopment Grab

The joint Budget Conference Committee finished their budget work this week to bridge the projected $24 billion gap. The Governor immediately announced he would veto it because of the inclusion of some tax increases. The Legislature's Budget Conferees voted to take $1.05 billion over the next three years from redevelopment agencies throughout the state, rejected the administration's proposal for use of federal Neighborhood Stabilization Program (NSP) funds, and deleted the $4 million in Emergency Housing Assistance Program (EHAP) funds restored by the Assembly. The conferees took the redevelopment funds despite the CA Redevelopment Association's successful challenge earlier this year of the Legislature's past redevelopment fund grabs for purposes other than what redevelopment law allows. The committee approved "budget language" that was represented as a resolution of the lawsuit. This week the SDHF Board voted to oppose the State's action on redevelopment funds even though the grab will not come from the 20% affordable housing set aside.

SANDAG Seeks Volunteers for RTP & RCP Update

SANDAG is seeking public volunteers for its Regional Planning Stakeholders Working Group (SWG). The SWG will act in an advisory capacity on the development of the 2050 Regional Transportation Plan (RTP) and its components, and laying the foundation for the next Regional Comprehensive Plan (RCP) update and the SB 375 Sustainable Communities Strategy.

The 2050 RTP is scheduled for adoption by the SANDAG Board of Directors in 2011. The SWG provides a unique opportunity for SANDAG to involve citizens with expertise in subject matter areas of regional interest as well as individuals who reflect the demographics of the region, with particular emphasis on communities that are not traditionally involved in the regional planning process.  Consider applying here if you are interested.  The application deadline is Monday, June 22, 2009.
