SDHC Launches Program to Create 1, 035
Units |
The San Diego Housing Commission this morning
approved the staff's plan for using the equity in 1,254
former public housing units to create 1,035 additional
affordable rental homes. The plan is expected to
enable the Commission to diversify its portfolio of
rental stock to include greater geographic diversity,
particularly in northern parts of the City. Commission
staff noted that the new units will come from the
acquisition and rehab of foreclosed properties, failed
real estate developments (apartments and condos), new
construction and land acquisition. The Federation
supports the plan, including its provision that 40% of
the new rentals will be developed in partnership with
entities outside of the Commission. More
information is here. |
