Purpose

Mission Statement

Working together as a coalition of affordable housing developers, advocates and other organizations, we promote the creation of quality affordable housing focused on lower income families and people in need.

Whom We Serve

Our focus in on those with very low incomes, and while we may advocate for a broader range of income groups affected by affordable housing issues, we will take a leadership role in advocating for those with very low incomes who are most severely impacted and have the fewest options.

A guiding principle is that we will advocate for those households whose housing costs divert resources from other necessities for living, e.g. a healthy diet, health care, transportation, etc.

Our Purpose

• To bring together SDHF members and representatives from all sectors of San Diego County who are interested in the development and management of affordable housing and in community economic development and to facilitate the accomplishment of common goals
• To serve as a clearinghouse and network of shared information on best practices, successful strategies and projects and current trends in the fields of affordable housing and community economic development
• To provide and/or participate in training members and the community in areas such as needs assessment, financing, construction, management, marketing, assets management service delivery and project evaluation
• To analyze proposed changes in legislation, public policy and private investment which affect affordable housing and to educate SDHF members and the community of the impacts of those changes. The SDHF may take positions on specific legislation, ordinances and ballot initiatives, but does not endorse candidates for elected offices. Download our Advocacy Principles.
• To represent the collective interest of members in the areas of concern
• To foster and promote better understanding of nonprofits and community development organizations

• Monthly newsletter, Housing and Community Development News to more than 350 groups and individuals
• Weekly email updates to members
• Annual Awards Event honoring the best in the field
• Annual Conference
• Public policy, coalition and public education initiatives
• Affordable Housing Roundtables
• Membership meetings

The SDHF is 501 (c) 3 tax-exempt charitable organization. All donations are deductible as charitable contributions (Click here for IRS Determination Letter).
