Finding Affordable Housing in San Diego County
There is a wide variety of affordable housing opportunities in the County ranging from emergency shelters to programs that provide up to $75,000 in down payment assistance for the purchase of a home. Unfortunately, the demand for affordable housing far exceeds the supply of affordable housing. As a result finding affordable housing requires patience and persistence.
The first step is to download the following document:
Housing Resources Directory 2006-2007 (click here)
This document includes listings of affordable housing projects, shelters and service providers. It is maintained by the San Diego County Housing & Community Development and the San Diego Housing Commission. (Click on Underlined Text to go to referenced document). These sites also have information about the Section 8 Programs in the County.
NOTE: There is no citywide waiting list for apartments that are privately-owned. Each apartment complex has its own waiting list. To maximize your chances, you should apply to each complex.
