Tenants Issues:

CALIFORNIA TENANTS: A guide to residential tenants’ and landlords’ rights and responsibilities in California by the California Department of Consumer Affairs. This includes information regarding apartments, condo conversions, mobilehome parks, SRO hotels. Each local government may also have additional requirements.

Condominium Conversion Resources (for City of San Diego - check with your own city)

The Fair Housing Council of San Diego provides services to those who feel they have been discriminated against
Legal Aid of San Diego, Inc.   Provides free legal representation for low income tenants and HUD property tenants that have received notices of evictions, utility shut-off, need repairs to their apartment or other landlord-tenant issues.

Affordable Housing Advocates  provides free legal representation to the poor in impact housing cases, to enforce and enhance  affordable housing laws and tenants' rights.  Advocates specializes in the enforcement of state redevelopment law.

Tenants Legal Center of San Diego provides advice to all tenants.
San Diego Volunteer Lawyers Program

Earned Income Tax Credit

The EITC program provides refunds to indiviudal workers earning less than $39,783 a year who have children, even if they did not earn enough to pay taxes.  Working individuals who don’t have children are also eligible.  Depending on marital status and number of children, families could get a tax refund of up to $4,400.

Trained volunteers are available to assist to low income workers complete their tax returns for free.  Click here for a list of the locations that provide this assistance.
