Last Chance to Save Prop 46 Programs Next Week

The legislative leadership is trying to complete a deal on the infrastructure bond packages for the November ballot by the end of next week. It appears that the Republicans continue to be opposed to including the extension of the key Prop. 46 programs. There have been reports that many of them do not really understand how the programs work.

We have created a new one page fact sheet that clarifies that the programs are bricks and mortar programs, not grants for rent subsidies or other giveaway type programs. The fact sheet also emphasizes the economic benefits of affordable housing development in the County derived from the Prop. 46 awards to date.

The fact sheet can be downloaded at: http://housingsandiego.org/documents/Support_AH_2006.pdf. Please contact your local elected officials, business partners and encourage them to contact the delegation both here and in Sacramento.  The contact info is at: http://www.signonsandiego.com/news/politics/contact.html.

Affordable Housing Finance Magazine to Recognize Outstanding Developments

If you have done an outstanding affordable housing project or know of one that should be recognized, Affordable Housing Finance magazine wants to hear about it. They are searching for the best affordable housing developments in the nation that were completed in 2005 or will be completed in 2006. The finalists will be published in the August 2006 issue; Affordable Housing Finance readers will then vote for the winner in each category, with extensive coverage on the winners published in the November 2006 issue. The winners will be presented with awards at AHF Live: The Tax Credit Developers' Summit Nov. 1-3 in Chicago. Each category winner will receive complimentary conference registration. The grand prize winner will also receive $5,000 to benefit the project and its tenants.

Don't delay, the deadline for nominations is May 1. For more information contact Christine Serlin at christine@housingfinance.com.
