BOE Hearing on
Property Tax Rule 140.1 |
|
The State Board of Equalization (BOE)
is holding a hearing next Friday, June 1, to consider a
petition by the Non Profit Housing Association of
Northern California (NPH) to change the provisions of
this regulation so that they shall not apply to limited
partnerships in which all of the general partners are
nonprofit corporations and/or eligible limited liability
companies meeting the requirements of Revenue and
Taxation Code section 214. This change is needed to
address the unintended consequences of Rule 140.1 which
have caused new and needless paperwork for nonprofit
housing developers.
The sample
letter is addressed to First District Board
member Betty Yee, but please also write or fax other
board members in districts where your organization is
active (see attached
list). In addition, please write or fax State
Controller John Chiang.
The BOE is due to take up
NPH's petition at their regular meeting on June 1st in
Sacramento (see attached
agenda).
Please contact Paul Peninger
(paul@nonprofithousing.org or 415-989-8160 x 19) for
additional information and to let us know if you will be
attending the hearing on June 1st.
