The campaign to help legislators understand that Californina's housing market is broken is gearing up for visits to legislators this fall.  The state-wide campaign is in support of the creation of a permanent source of funding for affordable housing. If calling on legislators doesn't appeal to you, we could use help in identifying spokespersons outside the industry who understand what a broken housing market means to families, children, seniors, healthcare and businesses in our community. We also need people willing to send letters to the editor, call-in to talk radio programs, help us get a website started to tell the housing story, and speak to community groups about the importance of fixing our broken housing market.

If you'd like to help out in these ways (or others), contact Doris Payne-Camp at doris@housingsandiego.org.

HCD Holds Neighborhood Stabilization Meetings

HCD is holding two more stakeholder meetings on the Neighborhood Stabilization Program (NSP) to get input on the state's Action Plan.  The Plan covers the state's NSP allocation and must be adopted by December 1st, 2008.  (A session in LA was held previously.) Smaller jurisdictions that did not receive NSP allocations previously will be eligible for a share of the state program. NSP is part of the Housing and Economic Recovery Act passed by Congress this summer.

The remaining meetings are:
    November 3rd - Sacramento           November 6th - Merced
    10:00 - 3:00 pm                             10:30 - 3:30 pm

The Action Plan will be released on the HCD website on November 14th for a 21-day public comment period.  In addition, there will be a public hearing November 21 at HCD on the Action Plan.
