About affordable housing management academy

In the affordable housing industry, property management is a vital component of housing stability and success for residents. Finding highly trained, competent, and compassionate leaders in the property management industry is a challenge, and those who suffer the most are the residents. There is a need to fill positions with those who have a passion for serving residents within affordable housing communities. The Affordable Housing Management Academy seeks to help individuals who come from lower socio-economic backgrounds, individuals of color and those who might have grown up within an affordable housing community obtain gainful employment in property management and the affordable housing industry. Supporting individuals to serve the residents with whom they share lived experiences is a win-win solution to the need for more diversity, inclusion, and equity in the field of affordable housing and property management.

Program Overview

The Affordable Housing Management Academy is a college-level training and certification program designed to empower, educate, and deliver the necessary tools and skills needed to be successful within the property management industry. Affordable Housing Management Academy’s graduates will be well-prepared to emerge within the property management industry and bring their life experiences to impact not only the industry but also the residents in affordable housing communities.

The Affordable Housing Management Academy consists of a fully immersive eight-week training program where students will be supported throughout and beyond leading to various career opportunities within the affordable housing industry. Students will be further supported by collaboration with one-on-one industry mentors who will provide guidance in areas such as career path counseling, interview skills, and resume writing skills.

Our Students

The goal of this program is to empower individuals who face major barriers in finding a path to stable employment and career opportunities that provide upward mobility and give them the needed skills and support network for pursuing a career path that leads to future success.  Outreach for SOAH will be targeted towards disadvantaged youth, adults who come from lower socio-economic backgrounds, individuals of color, and those who might have grown up within an affordable housing community.

No applicant will be denied based on their race, color, religion, national origin, ancestry, disability, gender, gender identity, gender expression, sexual orientation, marital status, medical condition, or genetic information.  The program will be maintained to ensure equal treatment of all who wish to participate in this program.

Goal:

  • To create career pathways specifically for young adults of color and those who might have grown up within an affordable housing community.

  • To connect participants to gainful employment in affordable housing management and within the greater affordable housing community.

  • Supporting individuals to serve residents with whom they share lived experiences is a win-win solution to the need for more diversity, inclusion, and equity in the field of affordable housing management.
